Starfield New Game Plus NG+ New Playthrough Explained Details

Starfield New Game Plus Explained: What Carries Over in NG+?

Starfield new game plus, otherwise known as NG+, doesn’t work the same way as it does in other games. The option for NG+ won’t appear in the main menu, and only a part of your progress will carry over in a subsequent playthrough. Fair warning, though – there are major spoilers after the break below for some mechanics and several items you get in new game plus, but we will not to spoil anything about the story. We highly recommend thinking about whether you are going to aim for a NG+ playthrough or not as soon as you can, because there are consequences for selecting it. Here’s a breakdown of what you get in new game plus for Starfield.

What carries over in Starfield new game plus?

Only your experience points, skills, and powers carry over in new game plus.

This means that your credits and entire inventory as well as anything you might have stored in your ship’s cargo hold will be gone. On that note, any ships you have built, upgraded, or obtained also goes away. The same goes for your houses and outposts, which includes anything you might have placed or decorated inside. All of your romantic relationships are also reset, but you have the chance to rekindle them.

What do you get in Starfield new game plus?

You get the following items for effectively choosing the new game plus option at the end of the main campaign (again, we’re keeping the names of the items vague so that it doesn’t spoil anything):

  • A new ship – You will obtain a new ship at the start of your new playthrough that has 5 crew space and great overall stats for weapons, cargo hold, and shielded capacity. However, you can’t upgrade this ship with different parts, so you will likely get more mileage with B-class and C-class ships once you have the credits to buy them.
  • Frontier ship – The game will give you a free Frontier ship as if you already completed the opening sequence of the game
  • Legendary spacesuit – You will also earn a powerful spacesuit that has fantastic resistances, a balanced boostpack, as well as the Chameleon, Hacker, and Armor-Plated traits. However, it will take up your spacesuit, helmet, and boost pack slots, so you’ll be able to exceed the strength of this spacesuit eventually.

You will also be able to boost the overall strength of your powers by revisiting the temples associated with them, although the locations for all of them will change. During the first main mission in new game plus, you also have the option of going through the main quest again or deciding to forego it.

Either way, several NPCs will react differently to you, especially when it comes to your fancy ship. And you have the potential of meeting a few characters, like one high-end merchant, that you weren’t able to find in the original playthrough.
